Life In The New Year

Life is so unpredictable it throws me off balance sometimes.  A new baby boy grandson born the day after my Father was diagnosed with lung cancer and 2 months to live.  October 10, 2012 a day filled with joy mixed with great sadness.  Life and death two overwhelming emotions mixed with confusion and exhaustion.  Torn between wanting to bond with new grandson, but also needing to be by my Fathers side.  Mixing my time between visiting baby and sitting with my Dad.  One month later our Father passes away Friday November 9, 2012. Life a breath taken over and over.  Death a breath untaken.  Numbing loss, exhaustion, and grief sent me into a depressed state for weeks.
The holidays its Thanksgiving and time to get ready for trip to Maui.  Week early Thanksgiving dinner with family and actual day watching the Macy's Parade then going out for turkey dinner. Family trip to Maui for 7 days one word "paradise".  Best medicine for my depression, sun, water, good food and great company.  Got my second wind back just in time for Christmas. No need to do the all out decorating  motto for this year less is more.  Baking, shopping and wrapping keeps me busy as our family prepares to say "Good Bye" to our beloved Uncle.  Having fought cancer for over 4 years the end is near and weighs heavy on our hearts.  Our 53 year old Uncle passes on Friday December 28, 2012, surrounded by loved ones.  The strength and comfort felt through family is a powerful healer.  We pick each other up, lend a helping hand, say kind words, laugh, cry, hug and support each others emotions.  So here it is a New Year full of newness, changes, adjustments, and difficult times. So lets all be THANKFUL for the New Year and  cheer to new beginnings.

Summer in Bloom

Spring has been a busy time in the garden. Replanted cabbage, lettuce, cucumbers, and then placed bird netting to protect garden from the Quail.  Since the birds are unable to munch on the young green plantings the garden is starting to thrive.  Radishes can be harvested in just a few days and the lettuce is delicious. Walla Walla Sweet Onions are doing very well and we look forward to using them in our homemade salsa.  Our goal this year is to produce cucumbers, dill, and peppers for homemade pickles instead of buying at the market to bring home and can.  This year we planted 2 Beefsteak tomatoes, 3 Sweet one hundreds, and 3 Roma starts to make salsa and eat fresh in salads and hamburgers. Happy Gardening!

Spring Is All Around Us

Spring is here in Wenatchee.  Time to clean up the flower beds and tend to the vegetable garden.  Its time to plant all the cool weather crops like lettuce, radishes, walla walla sweet onions, cabbage, peas and such.  Potatoes will be planted on Good Friday the 6th of April this year.  The Apple Blossom Festival is full of family fun that we all look forward too, with the parade, pancake feed, and all the rides and food booths. Happy Spring to us all!
