Summer in Bloom
Spring has been a busy time in the garden. Replanted cabbage, lettuce, cucumbers, and then placed bird netting to protect garden from the Quail. Since the birds are unable to munch on the young green plantings the garden is starting to thrive. Radishes can be harvested in just a few days and the lettuce is delicious. Walla Walla Sweet Onions are doing very well and we look forward to using them in our homemade salsa. Our goal this year is to produce cucumbers, dill, and peppers for homemade pickles instead of buying at the market to bring home and can. This year we planted 2 Beefsteak tomatoes, 3 Sweet one hundreds, and 3 Roma starts to make salsa and eat fresh in salads and hamburgers. Happy Gardening!

Spring Is All Around Us
Spring is here in Wenatchee. Time to clean up the flower beds and tend to the vegetable garden. Its time to plant all the cool weather crops like lettuce, radishes, walla walla sweet onions, cabbage, peas and such. Potatoes will be planted on Good Friday the 6th of April this year. The Apple Blossom Festival is full of family fun that we all look forward too, with the parade, pancake feed, and all the rides and food booths. Happy Spring to us all!

Poem
I found this poem in an old picture frame behind the photo. I don't know who wrote it but I wanted to share it.
After awhile you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand & chaining a soul
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and
company doesn't mean security
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't
contracts and presents aren't promises
And you learn to accept your defeats with
your head up and your eyes ahead with
the grace of a woman not the grief of a
child and learn to build all your roads
on today because tomorrows ground is
too uncertain for plans and futures have a
way of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine
burns if you ask too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate
your own soul instead of waiting for
someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure...
that you really are strong and you really
do have worth.
And you learn and learn....
with every good-bye you learn.

Cabin Fever
The coldness has past here in Wenatchee. Snow is melting and the birds are building nests in the garage door runner. Time to start thinking about all the spring projects. Making a 36' X 5' raised bed for gardening. Will be planting in May. The cover crop on main garden has not yet bloomed and I'm afraid it will not due to all the straw and chicken manure. Chickens have been laying 6 eggs each day during the cold, hopefully with the weather warming they will start laying 9 one each. In April the chickens will lose all there feathers and stop laying for about 6 week. This should be very interesting featherless hens?

Month Gone By
The New Year has brought unexpected changes to our family! When we told Grandpa good-bye on Christmas Day we all said "We'll see you next Sunday for your 80th Birthday Party". On New Year's Eve he went to heaven. We had to instead celebrate his life and tell him good-bye on the day we were going to have the party. I'm reminded to make the most of each day and always tell the ones close to you how much you love and appreciate them.
