Chickens and the cold

The temperature here in Wenatchee has been in the low teens and high 20's during the day for a couple of weeks.  The hens go into the coop at night so we shut them in and let them out in the morning.  The coop had a 25 watt bulb to give them their 17 hours of light but also heat.  The water inside the coop started to freeze so we wrapped with heat tape.  As the days have past egg productivity has declined.  So I bought an infra-red  heat lamp which really heated up the coop.  I collected 5 eggs this morning fingers crossed will get 9.

Baking Days Are Here

Look at all the wonderful KitchenAid Mixers at my Amazon Astore.  Using the correct tools makes all the difference especially during this time of year.    You'll find rebuilt models that are reasonably priced along with the grand daddy of them all models.  Looking forward to promoting high end small kitchen appliances. Watch for additional products.

What to do with Pumpkin

Make wonderful aroma come from your kitchen. Pumpkin for breads, pies, cookies, muffins, pancakes, soup and whatever else comes to mind.  I cut mine in half, gutted, scraped out seed and baked them in the oven at 350 until soft. Took out of oven cooled so I could handle without burning myself and scooped flesh into bowl.  Mash with potato masher and then pureed in my blender.  Strained liquid off and started baking.  Makes the best pumpkin pie EVER.  The chicken loved the leftovers, and my husband ate plain.
